Hello my dear scrappy friends, Kathy Mosher back with you today with another Christmas layout. This one features a photo of my brother and I under the tree. I was about 6 and he was 4 years old living in Bremerton, Washington (actually Olympic View). I remember this year like it was yesterday. One thing I loved to do was lay under the tree and gaze up through the middle through all the lights and ornaments and smells of the tree This tree was huge and, yes, it was a REAL tree. They didn’t make fake ones in 1958.
I started with the Mintay paper collection “Christmas Stories” which came out last year. It reminded me of laying under this tree, so it was a perfect choice to try to recreate my memories of this wonderful year. There are a lot of layers in this layout at the top. At the bottom I wanted to use the new Nutcracker as one of the toys on the far bottom left. I hand painted him in acrylic paint and used some flat-backed beads for his buttons on his boots and jacket. I used little pieces of cardboard to pop-up some of the items around the layout and added touches of sparkle here and there. Such a fun layout to create. Next to the Nutcracker I used one of the Flourish Presents which I heat embossed the bottom portion with a yummy sparkly Nuvo embossing powder in turquoise and then used an elegant gold for the bow. I wished it photographed better.
Back up to the top of the tree I used one of my favorite Christmas embellishments Jingle Bells which I painted and then added Nuvo sparkling silver glitterdrops through the middle. Then I added a hot pink and white vintage gingham rayon ribbon.
The whole top of the layout is fussy cut from another sheet of the same paper and then layer with die cut snowflake borders from Anna Griffin.
Here’s another one:
I know it looks like there is a lot going on, but it does have some structure to it that I love. Oh!!! The little sparkly stars are from Tim Holtz!!!
