Happy Autumn/ Fall CE Friends! October is one of my favorite months. So many beautiful colors of fall. I also love Halloween.

For the October challenge just be inspired by one of the elements in the picture below and the twist is to distress something on your project. There are so many awesome techniques you can use to distress. Be sure to let us know how you were inspired by the picture and what you distressed in your description on your blog. Be sure to check out the new challenge guidelines below.

Now onto our new design teams amazing reveal.

Terhi KoskinenCE_October_challenge (5)I was so inspired of all those autumnal colors! And those big fat pumpkins made me want to bring some circle shapes to my card.  I used Creative Embellishments Rings for so many things-shapes, and I used gold embossing powder to get them shine like sun! I think my friend is delighted when I sent this to her – I know I’d be 😉

I loved the Autumn feel of the October Challenge and wanted to create a layout of a photo I took last week of all the autumn colors.  I used the Wheat Set 2, the Twig Frame With Fall Leaves and the Autumn Leaves Set for the title and some of the leaves.  I created this layout with distress inks, paints and stains in a warm Fall palette.

I was in love with this challenge as soon as I saw it!  Halloween is one of my favorite holidays here in the states and that’s exactly what came to mind when I saw the inspiration photo!!!  I was inspired by all the orange and incorporated that into my theme as well! I started the card by adding various coordinating papers and distressing the edges along the way with black distress ink.  I used more black distress ink and the Binary Stamp to add some detail to the background of the card (although I ended covering most of it up with layers!).   I used the small frame from the Fancy Oval Frame Set which was treated with gesso, mists, and various distress inks, then coated with Distress crackle paint and finished off with black distress inks to get in the groves!  I also distressed the Steampunk Corner Set (smaller of the two) using gesso as my primer, then layering various colored distress inks until I achieved my desired look!

I created a card for the challenge. In the background I have used the yummy Chevron Distressed stamp. I was inspired by the pumpkins and did a Halloween theme! I used a few pieces from the Halloween Scene 2 set of chippys! The pumpkin chippys are finished with some Shimmerz Dazzlerz and the bats and tombstone are finished with some black mist. I added touches of gesso after they were applied to the card.

I created a layout around a picture that was taken at Cabela’s. A new sports store that recently opened in our area. my son Bret was bugging his grandmother to take him for awhile and they finally got to go. I guess it was a pretty cool store. He is standing in front of one of that many displays in the store.  I thought the colors in the photo were perfect for this challenge. I was inspired by many elements in the inspiration such as colors,  leaves, round elements (pumpkins) and the awesomely distressed chairs in the background of the picture. As part of the twist we are supposed to distress something on our projects. I always distress the edges of my layouts with my scissors. I also add ink for a further distressed look. I added crackle to the leaves of our ivy wreath as well.  There are many torn elements as well for a distressed look.

Now onto the alterations and applications. For the background I stamped our circle bokeh stamp  using a prima chalk edger in red, our circles  and crackle using black soot distress ink.  For the winter branch and cut apart winter tree I first applied a little modeling with my finger. I then layered distress inks and paints to achieve a real tree look. For the cut apart punchinella panel I applied modeling paste with my fingers as well and then added yellow embossing powder. Lastly for our wood veneer leaves I simply used faber castell big pitt pens and prima chalk edgers to alter them.

I was very inspired by the challenge this month. I pulled inspiration from the textures found in the photo and also the colors orange and black. I wanted to replicate an earthy texture, like tree bark or leafless tree branches. The mica specks in the paint also remind me of autumn fallen leaves. I started out with a wood frame that i painted bright orange. I then used blue paint to paint over  the orange. I took some sand paper and distressed the blue paint so the orange would peek through. It was very hard to capture that in the photo. I then used some modeling paste for the tree branch texture and some mica specks to look like leaves. I am in Love, love, LOVE with all of the Creative Embellishment chipboard flourishes. The 2 i used on this frame are Flourish 13 and Flourish 17 . I left them bare because i loved the raw earthy feel they give to the frame. I also used the chipboard title Beautiful that i painted with black glitter.

I had a blast playing with the Stacked Pumkins!! I used Golden Heavy gel Medium and tissue paper to make the leaves. Then Painted with 13 Arts paints and Silks. For the pumpkin part themselves I just used the Heavy Gel Medium and a paint brush and layered it thick. Then painted with the 13 Arts Vivid Paint and Silks. The paper I used to make the card is Authentique. Lots of fun using the pumpkins in the inspo pic. Did the twist and distress the edges of my layers.

This challenge was so much fun.  I love Halloween.  I was so inspired by the creepy gates that I knew I had to incorporate them into my project.  I took a try and turned it upside down and added two layers of chipboard so that it was level before covering it with paper.  I used Graphic 45 Eerie Tale for the base and the carousel along with Bazzill cardstock.  For the gates and fence, I painted with black paint and then added some Rub and Buff in silver leaf to give a distressed look.  I added Rub and Buff to the tombstones as well.  The pumpkin patch and images are fussy cut from the paper stack.  The carousel was a svg kit from SVGCuts.Com.  I altered the pattern a bit so that it would fit on to a battery operated lady susan so that it will spin on it’s own.  I also added poles for my horses and layered with some fussy cut images.  On the crown of the carousel, I used the web borders.  I painted with black distress paint, added glossy accents and black and silver micro beads.  Once dry, I cut them into sections to fit.  When I saw the witches, I was over the moon and had to have one flying over the carousel.  I painted with black distress paint and then added TH distress glitter.  I added tons of embellies and bling.  This was so much crazy fun to make.

kathleens layout Greetings my fellow scrapers.   Today I would like to share my take on this month’s challenge. This picture is mainly neutral in color with pops of orange and black.  To me, it also had a lot of whimsical flair which I love!  The added twist this month is to use distressing.    I tore strips of papers to create layers representing the newly fallen leaves that blanket the ground. The clock, Pumpkin corner and Witch Set received very muted colors and then a once over with ShimmerZ truffle spray.  The Webs and cat were give a coat of black ink.  Finally I tucked large orange and golden leaves and the  black cat and spider webs for that pop of fall color.
